Is health insurance the best work perk out there? Kerry Boielle from Southern Cross explains why you should consider more than just a pay check.

Key Points to note:

  • All insurance policies are different: Your policy will differ depending on which insurance provider and your personal medical history or status. Some may or may not cover pre-existing conditions and if you would like cover for your family also it's worth finding out if this is possible.
  • You may be able to take your health insurance with you when you change jobs:  It's worth checking this with your provider, whether or not your new employer offers this perk or you may be able to continue the cover yourself.
  • Ask for help: If you have any questions about your existing policy or would like to take out health insurance, you can seek professional, financial or legal advice, or reach out to your  insurance provider who will be happy to help you. You can also ask your HR team if your employer scheme has a designated case manager.
